Breeder’s Description – ‘Calizahr’
|
|
Calizahr…. the bitter orange. The 20+ year old Cali-O clone, an old elite gem that has proven her worth in gardens all over north America gets down with pollen from the Shiskaberry red line…. and large yielding, very resinous line.
The purpose of this cross was to develop a line that produces large, resinous flowers that retain the characteristic citrus flavor and aroma of the 20+ year old Cali-O mother, all the while improving upon her yield and resin production. The results culminate in an excellent plant, with lime green flowers that are covered in trichomes. Makes excellent hash.

I have had Calizahr around for a few cycles now, she goes big! A real nice producer. It has become highly regarded, the quality is all there fellow growers. I also would like to add since my first report in Jan 04 (below), that I feel if SOGged “small” Calizahr would give you some fat bud-cycles. I …continued |

I grew out the Calizahr from seed in the light-polluted, space-limited world of a northern European urban balcony. I was quite impressed with the hardiness of this plant -by the end of the season it had become a bit rootbound but it still produced very potent, dense buds despite being harvested early because of inclement weather.
In the veg phase it does everything that I like to see a plant do: extremely short internodal space, stocky Christmas tree shape, nice, strong branching.
In the flowering phase it added dense, thick buds which were extremely sticky and trichome laden. It basically became a Christmas tree laden with colas.
Despite its sativaish characteristics I managed to get it to finish on time (mid October). Without the light pollution problem so common to outdoor growing in cities it probably would have finished about 1 week earlier. So I am happy to have found this quality strain with sativa characteristics for my clime.
The high is quite potent despite the early harvest. It produces what I like to call a philosophical stone. Can be smoked both in the daytime and is not a party killer unless too much is smoked. Actually, it is the best weed I have come across for hanging out at the lake and swimming, wind surfing, rowing etc.
This plant does well indoors and out. Even very small clones put into flowering will produce dense buds.
Favorite characteristics of strain:
Easy harvest! Very little trimming is required with these dense, compact buds. Also very few popcorn buds towards main stem.
Extremely easy to clone. I have not seen a single one of the clones from this plant die. All in all, an excellent strain for finding a long-term mom.
Compact growth. I like plants that have short internodal spacing and don’t need to be topped, fimmed, etc.
Mold-resistant despite thick, dense buds. This has become a problem with other strains in my clime.
Needed only a moderate amount of ferts. I used a mild, sugar beet based organic fert in veg and the sea kelp-based ‘Plagron Alga Bloom’ in the flowering phase.
A note of caution when growing this strain:
Some of the plants have a tendency to get red stems. This seems to be a natural quality of the plant and does not mean it is unhealthy and needs to be drowned in ferts. Also, some plants will naturally have light green leaves.
When it starts getting cold, a majority of the plant may turn red, making it a great plant to grow guerilla style in a stand of young red maple trees.
Conclusion: Definitely a keeper.
Garden Information for this report
Northern european outdoor balcony with 3 to 7 hours of direct sun (depending on placement and time of year). Grown in soil mix (organic soil, bentonite, cow manure pellets, mineral rock powder, hoof clippings) in pots. All organic. Molasses-based fert in veg and kelp-based fert in bloom.

Strong vigor let her survive less than ideal conditions in early veg. She pulled through and went into flower at full speed after 5 weeks veg. Decent resin production 3 weeks into flower. Let off a rotten orange smell in throughout flower. Even the stem smelled orangish, smelliest stem ever. Leave …continued |
